Am about to remove the pin holding the distributor rotor drive to the cam.

Is the pin directional, or can take out from either side?

How hard is it to get the pin out?

How hard is it then to take the rotor drive out of the cam?

Many thanks

Hi Russ,

the pins can be removed from either direction. Some can be a real bear, others not so bad. Same thing with the drive piece, no fixed rule about the difficulty. Sometimes it helps to heat up the cam with a torch, if that doesn't help ease removal, then a long drift may be needed to tap the drive out. Any good hardware store will have a long piece of bar stock that will work as a nice punch.

I've taken quite a few drives on early cars out to solve the chronic leaking problem built in by the drive being holow. Welding or plugging the Drive Hole made for nice leak free distribs.

Was just explaining to my daughter that the site we can always depend upon for hard core info is Ferrari-talk and bingo, there you are.

Am taking the drives out of two intake cam cores to send to Elgin to increase duration to 255 - 260 and will look at 34 overlap.

Once I figure out how to do this, will remove the pin from an intake cam in my car to mount the Mallory distributor drive from Norwood.

Many thanks and stay tuned.

Success.
As an added Ferrari-Talk bonus, here is a shot of the Norwood distributor drive for the Mallory distributor that I need to drill the pinhole in once I figure out just exactly where.

Thanks to everyone
