About 3 months ago, I had the pleasure of helping a buddy with his girlfriends '82 308. She needed new CV boots. (right side) (it's always the right side on 308's)

The Axle bolts would not break loose.

I tried everything from liquid wrench, the 'hitting them with a propane torch deal then impacting' to 400 lbs/ft of impact. NUTHIN' worked.

I ended up cutting them off with my die grinder and cut off wheel.

Then, All new hardware later, all was ok.

What a messy job that was.

I've seen my share of frozen CV bolts but these were from hell.

Anybody what to post other techniques ? (would be appreciated)

Joe,

I don't know of alternate methods other than years of experience and practice. I personally use a technique on all situations such as you describe that is part Martial Arts and part Mind over Matter...the secret is to send the loosening force (twist & ultra-sonic vibration) thru the bolt/stud/nut and into the threads without overcoming the strenght of the tool or edges of what the tool is on/in...my technique requires patience and the power the feather can have over the oak tree...from the ancient teachings such as Kung Fu, Ti Chi, Karate, etc.

Hope this gives you pause for contemplation... it works and it works well.

;-)
